Chemistry is an extremely intriguing subject that combines my profound interest of natural sciences with its ingenuity surrounding the topic of Chemistry. This interest into natural sciences was acquired from GCSE Chemistry where it so seemingly intertwined with the world, it was everywhere from subatomic to matter itself. During this time, I remember excelling academically in both organic and physical Chemistry examinations I was so incredibly confident that I requested my teacher to change my predicted B grade to an A grade - sort of how an excited electron is raised to a higher energy level.
My passion for Chemistry further developed during the first year of A levels. In particular, I thoroughly enjoyed the titration practical's which fostered and enhanced my academic skills as well as fostering personal attributes such as patience, meticulousness and observative. From the enjoyment of titrations, I went on to complete some further research in its application in the medical industry especially in titrating drugs against ADHD to provide a high therapeutic index which is a highly complex process yet an important step in the advancement of medicine. Recently, I read an article from the Science daily about how water molecules can be split to provide energy which I found to be really intriguing and an exciting discovery. Therefore, I would love to obtain a greater understanding from my chosen university Chemistry course because I would relish the opportunity to be actively involved in the universities research programmes in this area.
Alongside Chemistry, I have chosen to study Biology and Computer science. Biology is a perfect mix with Chemistry so many aspects of it relate. Alongside this, these sciences challenges individuals to be independent and determine outcomes from a range of scientific practicals. I am full away that I am capable of being independent as well as decisive. These traits are further strengthened in Computer science, especially in coding, where decisions may influence the next output, and therefore must be accurate. In relation to chemistry, I believe this is vital for simulations which involve highly dangerous chemical reactions to determine what the outcome would be. I would like to further my interest in computational chemistry alongside fostering my interest in organic and physical Chemistry.
Through my work experience at a highly reputable Telecommunications company, I developed skills that may be transferred into my future career. Two distinct skills were the ability to adapt to changes and analytical skills. This enabled me to be creative having the confidence to experiment by embracing originality. I am highly motivated to achieve my goals and my work ethic is exemplary and as a result, I am keen to study at a university that will both foster my nature skills in this field as well as opening academic doors alongside opportunities in research.
In my spare time, I play chess online and in local chess tournaments and use blitz time modes for fine tuning my decision-making thus winning multiple awards. Furthermore, I like playing racket handheld sports and extreme sports as a fun escape from studies and would wish to represent my chosen university in these sports. I am enthusiastically looking forward to undertaking this undergraduate chemistry course to learn more intriguing aspects of Chemistry and happily find opportunities to show off my Chemistry ability in workplaces, with a view to becoming a pharmaceutical scientist where I will get the opportunity to make a real difference in the world of Chemistry and in society as a whole.
Overall, I am enthusiastically looking forward to undertaking this Chemistry course to learn more intriguing aspects of Chemistry and happily find opportunities to show off my Chemistry ability in workplaces coupled with my genuine passion for Chemistry would make me an excellent asset to any undergraduate course.- 1 Year ago

Program Description
I. Introduction
Chemistry is regarded as the central science because of its role in connecting different subjects and its importance in interdisciplinary research, such as chemical biology, materials science, energy, agricultural development, drug discovery and so on.
For the teaching, the comprehensive 4 years credit-based bachelor curriculum in our Department covers a wide range of chemistry aspects and related disciplines with up-to-date literature materials for their selection. Generally it included the four basic chemistry areas as the core courses (organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry), elective courses included but not limited to medicinal chemistry, polymer chemistry, chemical biology, energy and materials chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and environmental chemistry, which are closely related to the frontiers of current research and the needs of our society. Moreover, in order to encourage inter-disciplinary research, the students are motivated to study other science related subjects in the first year of admission, included but not limited to biology, physic and engineering.
Adhering to our university’s motto of "Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship," the Chemistry Department focuses on cultivating students’ innovation, critical thinking and ability for interdisciplinary cooperation. The curriculum design emphasizes not only the basic theory, but also practical training particularly in the areas of new medicine, new energy, and new materials. Undergraduates are strongly encouraged to participate in various research programs supervised by professors to cultivate their creativity, practical skills and ability for interdisciplinary cooperation. The department maintains a wide array of sophisticated instrumentation necessary for modern chemical research and teaching.
